Carlisle came out seeing the sick girl as he helped her in the house laying her down in one of the rooms as he was looking her over, frowning seeing how sick she was, not thinking she could recover from it.

Unsure as to why, it could be because she had already been so far gone with being sick, but she didn't seem to look like she was really suffering during the change. After a few days though she did start to open her eyes as she was looking around a bit.
